MUSCAT: The preliminary qualifications for the 34th Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Competition begins today (Sunday) with the participation of 2,214 contestants.
The Sultan Qaboos Holy Quran Competition, overseen by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) at the Diwan of Royal Court, aims to instil spiritual values, develop Quranic skills, and encourage competition among participants, reflecting the importance of the Holy Quran and the nurturing young talents in its memorisation.
The competition comprises seven levels: Level 1 for the memorisation of the entire Holy Quran; Level 2 for the memorisation of 24 consecutive parts; Level 3 for the memorisation of 18 consecutive parts; Level 4 for the memorisation of 12 consecutive parts (the contenders must have been born in 2001 or later); Level 5 for the memorisation of six consecutive parts (the contenders must have been born in 2012 or later); Level 6 for the memorisation of four consecutive parts (the participants must have been born in 2016 or later); and Level 7 for the memorisation of two consecutive parts (the contenders must have been born in 2019 or later).
The judging committee will visit 28 centres in different governorates of Oman, following the addition of two new centres this year in the wilayats of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar and Dima W'attayeen. Registration for the 34th edition of the competition took place between April 21 and July 7, 2026. — ONA
